What is Smartlipo?
Persona Medical Spa now offers cutting edge liposuction technology designed for body contouring. Smartlipo was the first FDA approved laser lipolysis system, which offers patients a minimally invasive treatment, performed under local anesthesia, for the removal of fat. Smartlipo is a simple outpatient procedure that results in little downtime since it involves less bleeding, bruising, swelling and discomfort than traditional liposuction. Our patients typically schedule their Smartlipo body contouring procedure on a Friday and are back at work on Monday. This is an ideal treatment option for those stubborn areas of fat that have not responded to consistent diet and exercise.
How does Smartlipo differ from traditional Liposuction?
Smartlipo body contouring is achieved through the use of a state-of-the-art laser which liquefies fat and tightens skin. This minimally invasive procedure also allows for the use of a small cannula to remove unwanted fat cells, ultimately resulting in less trauma and downtime as compared with traditional liposuction. Smartlipo is known to offer considerably less discomfort, swelling, and bruising following the procedure. The Smartlipo laser produces a thermal reaction, resulting in the tightening of skin overlying the contoured area that is much greater than with traditional liposuction.
Who is a good candidate for Laser Lipo and what areas can be treated?
Smartlipo is a treatment for unwanted fat in the areas of the chin and neck, upper arms, abdomen, love handles, inner and outer thighs and bra line. This elective body contouring procedure is ideal for the healthy individual who has areas of unwanted fat that have not responded to a healthy diet and consistent exercise.
Are results immediate?
Immediately following Smartlipo, patients are able to see and appreciate the newly and beautifully contoured area. Following laser body contouring, the body’s natural swelling response occurs within 24 hours and will distort the results for approximately six to eight weeks. However, swelling is minimal to moderate and significantly less than can be expected with traditional liposuction.
Are results permanent?
The results of Smartlipo body contouring are permanent because fat cells have been removed during the procedure. Should weight gain occur, fat expansion will be seen in an area where Smartlipo was not performed.
How long does the procedure take?
Patients can expect 45 minutes to two hours on average for a Smartlipo treatment, as procedure time greatly depends on the area(s) being treated.
Is Laser Lipo painful?
Patients are very comfortable during the procedure and, because of local anesthesia, do not experience any pain or discomfort in the area being treated.
Is the procedure safe? Is there risk involved?
Smartlipo has a less than 1% rate of complications as compared to traditional liposuction procedures. It is considered to be a safe, outpatient procedure with minimal associated risks and no serious side effects
What is the recovery time for Laser Lipo?
Rest with intermittent walking is recommended for the first 24-48 hours. A majority of our patients are back to work after two days and enjoy their regular exercise routine in one week. Strenuous exercise may be resumed in two weeks.
