What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment designed to encourage collagen production. Also known as collagen induction therapy, the treatment involves needling the skin with tiny, sterilized needles. These needles range in size from 0.25mm to 3mm.
This treatment was originally developed to reduce the appearance of scar tissue. This idea emerged after researchers discovered that breaking up tight collagen fibers in scar tissue led to collagen remodeling. Subsequently, this led to an improved appearance of the skin, with the scar tissue blending in with the surrounding skin. Later on, this technique was tested on various cosmetic concerns, and microneedling as an aesthetic procedure was born.
Microneedling is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime. It is also comfortable, quick and safe for anyone in relatively good health. Most patients need two to three treatments spaced two to four weeks apart to see improvement. Your optimal number of microneedling sessions depends on many factors, which we will gladly discuss during your consultation.
