Vein Therapy
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat blood vessels or their malformations (vascular malformations). To treat these vessels, which are noticeable on the surface of the skin, a special medicine is injected into the vessels, causing them to shrink in size. Sclerotherapy is most often used to treat spider veins or smaller unsightly varicose veins.
Sclerotherapy is a safe and highly effective treatment for such varicose and spider veins. The sclerotherapy solution causes the affected vein to scar and collapse, forcing the blood to route itself through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is then reabsorbed into local tissue and fades over a few weeks and occasionally may take up to a month to see full results. The procedure takes approximately 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the number of veins being treated and in some instances, repeated sessions may be needed to achieve optimal results. Following a sclerotherapy session, compression stockings are required for several days for the best cosmetic results. Sclerotherapy is the treatment of choice for spider veins and small varicose veins and is not uncomfortable for most patients.
Vascutouch
VascuTouch is an “electrocoagulation” system, which quickly and effectively removes facial imperfections caused by sun damage, aging, genetics, medications, hormones, childbirth and skin trauma. VascuTouch is similar to traditional laser treatments in its results but does not cause bruising, scarring or skin discoloration. VascuTouch effectively treats a variety of skin conditions including broken capillaries, cherry angiomas (red dots or large red moles), milia (small, hard white bumps) and skin tags.
The VascuTouch procedure is safe and has been used for years. Because it is vessel specific and uses low levels of heat energy, it results in minimal skin reaction and the dermis is not affected. VascuTouch works through the combination of direct current and radio frequency ablation, which coagulates the skin imperfection. Most blemishes can be removed within seconds. Depending on the number of capillaries, milia and or skin tags, most conditions can be corrected in one to two 15-minute sessions.
Your Persona specialist will begin treatment by cleansing and prepping the skin and, if necessary, applying a topical anesthetic. A fine tipped sterile probe is then placed on the skin’s surface, above the vessel or blemish to be treated. There is no pressure and just a slight penetration of the skin during the treatment, while the blood in the tiny vessel is clotted or coagulated and stops flowing. Some patients say they experience a “pinprick” sensation, but most feel the procedure is comfortable and manageable. Following treatment, the vessel is naturally absorbed into the surrounding tissue and will typically disappear within three to four.
